Find and open

Emoji, colours and definitions

Three small pickers that are usually a browser tab away.

Emoji and symbols

Press ⌘⌥Space for the emoji panel. It opens near your cursor. Type to search, and press ↵ to paste or ⌘↵ to copy. The panel has three groups (Emoji, Flags, Symbols), a Favourites list (add with ⇧↵) and your 20 most recently used. The Unicode code point is shown for each item. The picker learns: pick an emoji after typing a word once and it tops the results next time. Move around with the arrow keys.

You can also type :smile in the launcher. Beam shows six matches. Or open Search Emoji & Symbols from the menu bar. Actions: Paste, Copy, Copy Unicode Code Point.

Hotkey correction

Older repo notes say the emoji hotkey is Control-Option-Space. The code sets Command-Option-Space. You can change it in Settings → General → Quick Access, and the picker can be turned off in the same place.

Colour picker

Search pick colour (or use the menu bar item, or assign a hotkey). Click any pixel on screen with the macOS eyedropper. The hex code is copied. Show Colour History lists past picks.

Type a colour value into the launcher: hex, 0x form, rgb() or hsl(). Beam shows hex, RGB and HSL and a SwiftUI Color(...) snippet, each with a copy action.

Dictionary

Beam uses the macOS Dictionary, so it is offline. Try define X, definition of X, meaning of X, d X, what does X mean or X meaning. A single word of four or more letters that has a definition also shows one. Actions: Show Definition, Open in Dictionary, Copy Definition.
